Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Local School Alerts Help & FAQ Center. Below is a comprehensive guide addressing common questions regarding our emergency broadcasting operations, notification networks, administrative protocols, community digests, traveling and in-office notary services, and school leadership portal access.

General & Alert Services
How do I check for active school delays, early dismissals, or closures?

  • You can check real-time operational status updates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year on our dedicated Live Alerts & Closures page on our website.

Who determines when a West Virginia school district is delayed or closed?

  • Local School Alerts does not make operational decisions regarding school schedules. Official decisions to delay, dismiss early, or close schools are made exclusively by county superintendents, district administrators, and local public safety officials. Once an authorized school official confirms a schedule modification, our 24/7 dispatch system immediately receives the verified update and broadcasts it across our distribution network.

How quickly are emergency alerts updated on your platforms?

  • Alert updates are processed instantaneously upon official notification from school leadership. Our central dispatch operates continuously, ensuring that status changes are posted to our online board and automated notification channels within seconds of verification to give parents, staff, and transportation personnel maximum lead time.

Do your staff members work inside local school buildings?

  • No. Local School Alerts maintains a strict zero on-site presence policy at local school facilities. We respect the instructional environment and ensure zero disruption to student learning, classroom activities, or campus operations. All of our dispatch, monitoring, administrative, and community support operations are managed remotely through our centralized communications center based in Burnsville, West Virginia.

What types of notification channels do you use to broadcast alerts?

  • We utilize a multi-channel broadcast strategy designed to reach communities across West Virginia regardless of their location. This includes our primary web status board, text message alerts, email broadcasts, automated phone notifications, and direct feeds provided to regional news outlets and broadcast media.

Where can I find daily school lunch menus and nutrition schedules?

  • Daily, weekly, and monthly cafeteria menus are published on our website as soon as they are released by participating county school districts. You can view menus directly on our community portal or subscribe to receive them via our regular email news digests.

What is included in the Board Of Education Meeting Summaries and Community News Digests?

  • Our community digests provide localized updates on local Board of Education meetings, policy decisions, school calendar changes, public hearings, and regional educational news. We condense key administrative outcomes so parents and community members can stay informed on local school governance without having to digest hours of meeting recordings.

Notary Public Services
What notary public services does Local School Alerts offer?

  • We provide comprehensive, certified notary public services for educational institutions, business entities, administrative personnel, legal clients, and local residents. Our notary offerings cover a full range of official documentation, including affidavits, contracts, travel consents, educational verifications, parental authorization forms, financial records, and real estate documents.

Do you offer traveling and mobile notary services?

  • Yes! We know it is not always convenient or possible for clients to travel to an office. Our certified notary public will travel directly to your location—whether that is a school district central office, business facility, healthcare center, private residence, or neutral community location within our service areas.

Can I also visit your office for notary services?

  • Absolutely. If you prefer to come to us, notary services are available by appointment at our main office:
    Local School Alerts
    845 Burnsville Road
    Burnsville, WV 26335

How do I schedule an in-office or traveling notary appointment?

  • Scheduling is easy. You can book an appointment by calling our main office line at 304-701-8683, faxing your request details to 304-713-2667, or emailing us at info@localschoolalertswv.com. Simply let us know whether you would like to meet at our main office in Burnsville or have our traveling notary meet you at your home, office, or school facility.

What documentation and identification do I need for a notary appointment?
Whether we meet at our main office or travel to your location, all participating signers must be physically present and provide:

  • The complete, original, and unsigned document(s) (do not sign any pages prior to your meeting with the notary).
  • A valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification card for each signer (such as a state driver’s license, official state ID card, military ID, or U.S. passport).
  • Any required secondary signers or independent witnesses, if mandated by the specific document guidelines.

Closing Account Portal Access
What is the Closing Account Portal?

  • The Closing Account Portal is a secure, restricted operational interface built specifically for authorized West Virginia educational leaders—including superintendents, assistant superintendents, facility directors, and school principals. This portal allows verified administrators to submit, update, or cancel school delays and emergency closures in real time.

How do authorized administrators log into the portal?

  • Authorized users can access the system by navigating to the Closing Account Portal link under the Live Alerts and Closures page on our website. Logging in requires the username, password, and multi-factor authentication credentials provided to your organization by Local School Alerts during onboarding.

How does a school district establish portal access or onboard new staff?

  • New administrators, superintendents, or designated safety officers can request account setup, credential updates, or system training by contacting our administrative team directly. We provide full onboarding and operational support across all 55 West Virginia counties.

Who do administrators contact for immediate technical assistance or status verification?

  • If an administrator experiences technical difficulties accessing the portal during an active severe weather event or emergency, they can bypass the web portal and contact our team directly by phone at 304-701-8683 for immediate resolution.
